CERAMIC COATINGS

They all contain ceramic technology but they do different things and work at different levels of protection.

The Hermosa Graphene Ceramic Coating is the foundation product — it bonds permanently to your car's clear coat at a molecular level and provides up to five years of protection. It's applied once, takes around 15 minutes, and cures to a 10H hardness rating. This is the product that fundamentally changes how your car's paint behaves in the rain, against road salt, and against the contamination that Irish roads generate.

The Ceramic Spray is a maintenance and top-up product. It goes on in minutes — spray, wipe, done. It can be used on bare paint as standalone protection, or over an existing ceramic coating every three to four months as a sacrificial layer that extends the life of the coating underneath. Think of it as the product that keeps the Ceramic Coating performing at its best between annual decontamination washes.

The Ceramic Glass Cleaner and Coating is specifically for glass. Glass accumulates the same road film and exhaust residue as paint — and on a windscreen, that film causes dangerous glare on wet Irish roads at night. This product cleans the film and leaves a hydrophobic ceramic layer. Uniquely, it can be added to your washer fluid reservoir so that every time your wipers activate, a fresh layer of ceramic protection is automatically reapplied. Your wipers don't erode the coating — they become part of the reapplication process.

The Ceramic Shampoo is your maintenance wash product. Standard car shampoos are alkaline and gradually strip the hydrophobic layer from a ceramic coating over time. Hermosa Ceramic Shampoo is pH-neutral and contains SiO₂, meaning every wash actively maintains rather than degrades the coating underneath.

Used together, these four products form a complete ceramic protection system for Irish conditions.

The Graphene Ceramic Coating lasts up to five years under properly maintained conditions. That means washing with a pH-neutral ceramic shampoo, applying a ceramic spray topper every three to four months, and avoiding alkaline machine washes that strip the hydrophobic layer.

The Ceramic Spray provides protection for three to four months per application — it's designed to be reapplied regularly as a maintenance layer.

The Ceramic Glass Coating lasts several months on direct application, but when added to your washer reservoir it continuously reapplies with every wash cycle, effectively making it self-renewing throughout the season.

The Ceramic Shampoo actively maintains your coating with every wash — there's no separate lifespan, it's part of your ongoing routine.

In Irish conditions specifically, the salt season from October to March is the most demanding period for any coating. Washing more frequently during these months — not less — is the single most effective thing you can do to extend the life of your ceramic protection.

Yes — and that's the point. Hermosa products are specifically designed for confident home application without professional equipment or experience.

The Graphene Ceramic Coating takes around 15 minutes to apply on a standard family car. You'll need a clean, dry car, a sheltered space out of direct sunlight, and the applicator block and microfibre cloths included with your order. Full step-by-step instructions are included and available in our user guides at hermosahq.ie.

The ideal conditions in Ireland are a dry day above 10°C — which gives you a reliable window from April through September. Autumn applications are possible on a genuinely dry day before the salt season begins in October.

If you have any questions before you start, email support@hermosahq.ie and we'll walk you through it.

It depends on the condition of the existing coating. If the coating is still performing — water is beading cleanly, the paint looks good — you can apply the Hermosa Ceramic Spray over the top as a maintenance layer without removing the existing coating.

If the existing coating has degraded — water is no longer beading, the finish looks dull or flat — you'll need a full decontamination wash including an iron remover and clay bar treatment before applying a fresh Hermosa Graphene Ceramic Coating on top.

If you're unsure about the condition of your existing coating, email us at support@hermosahq.ie with details of your car and current coating and we'll give you a straight recommendation.

Yes — all Hermosa products work on any painted, fibreglass, gel coat, or glass surface regardless of vehicle type.

The Graphene Ceramic Coating is particularly effective on motorcycles (full tank, fairings, and frame), motorhomes and caravans (fibreglass roof and panels), and marine surfaces including boat hulls, jet ski hulls, and deck hardware.

Ireland's coastal conditions make ceramic protection just as valuable on boats and marine vehicles as on road cars — salt air, UV exposure, and persistent moisture are exactly the conditions the coating was developed to resist.

For caravan roofs specifically, ceramic coating significantly reduces the mildew and algae growth that Irish conditions accelerate — see our blog on caravan ceramic coating for full details.

For horseboxes, the combination of road salt exposure, animal waste splashing on lower panels, and regular hosing down makes ceramic coating particularly practical — easier to clean, better protection, longer-lasting finish.

GENERAL CAR CARE QUESTIONS

Generally yes, with one important caveat: avoid using alkaline car shampoos on a ceramic-coated car. Alkaline shampoos gradually strip the hydrophobic layer from ceramic coatings over time, reducing their effectiveness. If you switch to Hermosa Ceramic Shampoo for your maintenance washes, you protect the coating rather than degrading it.

For everything else — iron removers, tar removers, wheel cleaners, interior products — Hermosa products are compatible with other brands. That said, our full range is designed to work as a system, and using Hermosa products throughout gives you the most consistent results.

Yes, several Hermosa products are designed to be diluted for lighter cleaning or to suit specific applications. These include Ceramic Shampoo, Wheel Cleaner, Interior Detailer, and Ceramic Glass Coating, among others.

Just check the label for dilution ratios, or refer to the detailed instructions in our User Guides for best results.

Yes — and in Ireland this is one of the most important things a ceramic coating does. Irish roads are salted from October through March. Road salt is hygroscopic — it attracts and holds moisture against your paintwork, accelerating oxidation and clear coat degradation over time.

A ceramic coating's hydrophobic surface causes salt-laden water to bead and roll off rather than sitting and bonding to the paint. Salt that does deposit has minimal adhesion to the coated surface and is removed by the next rain event or rinse.

Washing your car more frequently during the salt season — not less — is the single most effective maintenance habit for a ceramic-coated Irish car. A quick rinse after motorway driving removes fresh salt before it has time to work on the coating.

Not only does it work — Irish weather is exactly why you need it. Ireland averages 150 to 225 rain days per year. Road salt runs from October to March. A significant majority of the Irish population lives within ten kilometres of the coast.

Hermosa's Graphene Ceramic Coating was developed and tested over six years in New Zealand — a country with comparable wet, temperate, and coastal conditions, and in some respects more extreme ones including snow, ice, and significantly higher UV. If it works there, it works in Ireland.

The graphene layer specifically maintains hydrophobic performance in cold, wet conditions in a way that standard wax and many SiO₂ coatings don't — which is precisely why it's the right product for Irish winters.

The coating requires 24 hours to cure fully before the car is ready for normal use. During that period keep the car dry and sheltered — avoid rain, car washes, or any moisture contact with the coated surface.

After 24 hours the coating is fully cured and ready for Irish roads. The full hardness rating (10H) develops over the following seven days as the coating continues to cross-link — during this period avoid harsh chemical washes if possible, but normal driving is fine from 24 hours.

Yes — surface preparation is the most important step. The coating bonds to your clear coat, so the surface needs to be clean, decontaminated, and free of any existing wax or sealant before application.

The minimum preparation: wash the car thoroughly with ph neutral car wash without wax or sealants, apply Hermosa Iron Remover to remove brake dust contamination, and apply Hermosa Tar Remover to remove any tar deposits. Dry completely before applying the coating.

For older cars or cars with existing wax or sealant: a clay bar treatment after washing removes bonded contamination and gives the coating the cleanest possible surface to bond to.

Full preparation guidance is in the user guide at hermosahq.ie. If you're unsure about your specific car's preparation needs, email support@hermosahq.ie.

RETURNS

If you've opened and used the product and are not satisfied with the results, please contact us at support@hermosahq.ie before returning anything. In most cases a problem with results is a preparation or application issue we can help you resolve — and we'd rather help you get the result you paid for than process a return.

If after speaking with us you're still not satisfied, we'll discuss what we can do. We want every Hermosa customer to get the result they expected. We're a small Irish brand and your satisfaction matters to us more than a single sale.

ABOUT HERMOSA

Hermosa HQ Limited is an Irish registered company based in Dublin 2. The brand was founded in New Zealand by Scott Bradley, who relocated to Dublin with his Kiwi / Irish wife and brought six years of ceramic coating development with him.

The products were developed and tested in New Zealand over six years before launching in Ireland — not because Ireland was an afterthought, but because New Zealand's demanding conditions (snow, ice, extreme UV, coastal salt air) provided the most rigorous real-world testing environment available. A coating proven in those conditions is more than ready for Irish roads.

Hermosa is Irish-based, Irish-registered, and built specifically for Irish and UK conditions.

Hermosa products are manufactured to our specifications in Guangzhou, China by a specialist car care formulation partner we have worked with throughout the product's development. All formulations are developed and quality-controlled to Hermosa's standards before shipment to our Dublin warehouse.

This is standard practice across the car care industry — including many brands that present themselves as British or European made. We're straightforward about it because we believe in being honest with our customers. What matters is the formulation, the quality control, and the results — all of which we stand behind.
