How Much Does 50 ml of Ceramic Coating Actually Cover?

By Scott Bradley, Founder — Hermosa Car Care

The bottle looks small. The price reflects a premium product. The natural question is: will 50ml actually be enough for my car?

The short answer is yes — for most cars on Irish roads, a single 50ml bottle covers the entire vehicle with product to spare. Here's why.

How ceramic coating is actually applied

Ceramic coating is not applied like paint or wax. You're not spreading a thick layer across the surface — you're applying an extremely thin, even film that bonds chemically to the clear coat at a molecular level.

The application method uses a foam applicator block wrapped in a microfibre cloth. A few drops — typically 8 to 12 drops — covers an entire panel. The coating is spread in overlapping cross-hatch strokes, left to flash (typically 1 to 3 minutes depending on temperature and humidity), then buffed off with a clean microfibre cloth.

Ireland's higher ambient humidity is worth noting here. It can accelerate the flashing process slightly. In practical terms, work panel by panel rather than attempting multiple panels before buffing. This is standard practice regardless of climate and the instructions included with every Hermosa order walk you through it clearly.

What does 50ml cover in square metres?

Our 50ml bottle covers approximately 35 to 50 square metres depending on surface preparation and application technique. To put that in context:

A standard family saloon: approximately 15 to 18 m² A full-size SUV or estate: approximately 18 to 24 m² A large van or 4x4: approximately 22 to 28 m²

One 50ml bottle is sufficient for a full application on any of these vehicles, with significant product remaining. For a small hatchback — a Volkswagen Polo, a Hyundai i20, a Ford Fiesta — you'll have enough product for a full application and a second coat on high-wear areas like the bonnet and roof.

Panel by panel: the practical picture

A standard family car has approximately 12 to 16 panels: bonnet, roof, boot lid, four doors, two front wings, two rear quarters, front and rear bumpers. At 8 to 10 drops per panel, 50ml comfortably covers all of them.

The most common cars on Irish roads — the Volkswagen Golf, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Tucson, Ford Focus, Skoda Octavia — are all well within a single bottle's coverage. For larger vehicles like a Toyota Land Cruiser, BMW X5, or Volvo XC90, one bottle still covers the full vehicle with one coat.

Where you might consider a second bottle

Very large vehicles: full-size vans, long-wheelbase SUVs, or motorhomes. A second bottle ensures complete coverage and allows a second coat on high-wear surfaces.

Two-coat applications: applying a second coat for enhanced depth and protection is possible — apply the first coat, allow 2 hours of cure time, then apply the second. For a two-coat application on a larger vehicle, a second bottle is advisable. Our two-bottle bundle offers better value if this is your plan.

Fibreglass surfaces: caravans, motorhomes, and boats have higher surface porosity than automotive paint, which increases product consumption. Coverage is typically closer to the lower end of the range.

Does Irish weather affect how much product you use?

Slightly. In cold conditions (below 12°C), the coating flashes more slowly, giving you a longer working window. In warmer conditions (above 20°C, uncommon in Ireland but possible in summer), work smaller sections and buff sooner.

Ireland's consistently high relative humidity means the coating flashes reliably — which is actually an advantage. Very dry conditions cause unpredictable flash times. In Irish conditions, the coating behaves consistently, which makes application more straightforward than in drier climates.

The practical answer

For the vast majority of cars driven in Ireland, one 50ml bottle of Hermosa Graphene Ceramic Coating is sufficient for a complete single-coat application. If you drive a larger vehicle or want a two-coat finish, our two-bottle bundle ensures you have everything you need.

If you're unsure about your specific vehicle, email us at support@hermosahq.ie with your make and model — we'll tell you exactly what you need before you buy.
