Hermosa Wheel Cleaner is a premium automotive detailing product designed to effortlessly clean, protect, and enhance the appearance of car wheels.

Wheel cleaners with iron removers turn red when used due to a chemical reaction between the iron particles in brake dust and the active ingredients in the cleaner. 

Iron particles from brake wear accumulate on the surface of the wheels and become embedded in the material. When the iron remover in the cleaner comes into contact with these particles, it initiates a process known as the iron chelation reaction. 

During this reaction, the iron particles are chemically bound to the cleaning solution, forming a complex compound that changes colour to red or purple. 

This colour change indicates that the iron particles are being dissolved and removed from the surface of the wheels. 

As a result, the cleaner effectively breaks down and removes stubborn brake dust, leaving wheels looking clean and refreshed.

The short answer is yes, but chrome and some aluminium wheels can be sensitive on occasion.  We would always recommend a test patch just to ensure there are no issues with your precious wheels. Apply a small amount of the Hermosa Wheel Cleaner to a rag and apply to an inconspicuous part of the wheel - behind a spoke, or remove the centre cap and apply to the wheel surface under the wheel cap.

Hermosa wheel cleaner contains Phosphoric acid which is regarded as a weak acid.

Wheel cleaners can be formulated to be either acidic or alkaline, with each type offering distinct benefits. Acidic wheel cleaners, like Hermosa Wheel Cleaner, contain ingredients like citric acid or phosphoric acid, which effectively dissolve and remove stubborn brake dust, road grime, and oxidation from wheel surfaces. They are particularly effective for removing mineral deposits and rust stains from metal surfaces but may require careful handling to prevent damage to sensitive materials like unsealed chrome or aluminium.

On the other hand, alkaline wheel cleaners utilise ingredients such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide to break down and emulsify oily contaminants like grease and tar. They are often more versatile and can be safer for use on a wide range of wheel materials, including aluminium and alloy, without causing corrosion or damage.

Ultimately, the choice between acidic and alkaline wheel cleaners depends on factors such as the type of contaminants present, the material of the wheels, and the desired level of cleaning effectiveness.

What you will need

• Hermosa Wheel Cleaner with the spray nozzle fitted
• Ideally, you will have 3 types of brushes to clean the different parts of the wheel
• wheel brush for between the spokes and to clean the full barrel of the wheel, 
• soft flat brush to clean the surface of the wheels, a detail brush to clean around the wheel nuts and tricky corners of your wheels.
• Water blaster or a strong garden hose with spray nozzle.
• A good quality latex or similar waterproof glove. You may also choose to wear a mask and safety glasses for additional protection when applying the wheel cleaner.

Step 1

Wait for the car and wheels to cool down if it has been driver recently (wait at least 30 minutes if the wheels are hot). Once the wheels are cool to the touch, put on your gloves and lets go!

Step 2

Give the wheels a good hose down or water blast, and try to remove as much brake dust, road debris and dirt from the inside of the wheel arch. 

Step 3

Spray the Hermosa Wheel Cleaner liberally over the wheel. The solution will turn red in colour as the chemicals activate with the metal debris from the brake rotors and brake dust.

Step 4

Use the wheel brush to remove all the dirt and solution from between the spokes and on the inside of the rim. 

Step 5

Remove all the solution and debris from the front face of the wheel using the flat brush

Step 6

Using the detailing brush, remove all the dirt from around the wheel nuts and any tight corners the other brushes have been unable to access.

Step 7

Using a water blaster (or the garden hose on full power) remove all the solution and loose debris from the wheel.

If the wheels have not been cleaned for some time, then a second spray of Hermosa Wheel Cleaner may be required on hard-to-move stains. 

Step 8

Finally, dry your wheels using a microfibre cloth. 

To make your wheel even better, apply Hermosa Graphene Ceramic Coating to the wheels to make cleaning even easier in the future and apply Hermosa VRP to the tyre to make the tyres pop!
